Launch
The British Association for the Study of Ukraine was founded by Professors Olga Onuch, Rory Finnin, and Andrew Wilson on 5 April 2024. Professors Onuch, Finnin, and Wilson make up the founding Leadership Committee of BASU. The first BASU constitution was ratified on 30 September 2024.
Objectives
The primary objectives of the British Association for the Study of Ukraine (BASU, “the Association”) are the following:
To institutionalize and grow the study of Ukraine in the United Kingdom, for the purpose of
- Forging pathways to policy and industry networks in the United Kingdom and beyond that can benefit from relevant Ukraine-focused expertise.
To develop and expand an engaged and active network of scholars who study and work on Ukraine (“a home for scholarship and research on Ukraine”), through
- Virtual and/or in-person meetings of working groups oriented on but not limited to: Social Sciences; Humanities; The Arts; STEM;Curriculum Development; Early Career Researchers (Post-Docs and PhDs); Public Outreach, Social Responsibility, Knowledge Exchange and Impact; Fund-raising and Development
- An Annual General Meeting at an annual in-person event with presentations from working groups, new academic papers, networking activities, and liaison sessions with policy and industry stakeholders.
Our First All Members Meeting
Professors Olga Onuch, Rory Finnin, and Andrew Wilson who make up the founding Leadership Committee of the new British Association for the Study of Ukraine (BASU) held the first BASU all members meeting on 29 November 2024.
