Dr Emma Mateo, Mihaychuk Postdoctoral Fellow at the Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute
Emma Mateo is a social scientist who studies protest, civil society, and political behaviour, withregional expertise on Ukraine and Belarus. Emma’s postdoctoral work currently examines civilian responses to conflict in the case of the Russo-Ukrainian war. Emma is currently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute, and previously held postdoctoral fellowships at Columbia University and New York University. Emma holds a PhD n Sociology (2022) and MPhil in Russian and East European Studies (2018) from the University of Oxford, and a BA in Modern Languages (French, Ukrainian, Russian) from the University of Cambridge.

Dr Silviya Nitsova, Political Scientist and British Academy International Fellow, Politics Department, University of Manchester
Silviya Nitsova is a political scientist and British Academy International Fellow in the Politics Department at the University of Manchester. She works on political economy, money in politics, and corruption. She is particularly interested in how extremely wealthy business people (oligarchs) interact with government officials, institutions, and the public to shape important political and policy outcomes. Her research draws from the contemporary experience of Ukraine and other post-communist states and employs unique, large-scale data and various methods, including social network analysis and survey experiments. Silviya holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
