Professor Vlad Mykhnenko, Geography and Political Economy, University of Oxford and Research Fellow, Sustainable Urban Development, St Peter’s College, Oxford

Vlad Mykhnenko is Professor of Geography and Political Economy in the University of Oxford and Research Fellow in Sustainable Urban Development at St Peter’s College, Oxford. Since the early 2000s, his economic geography focus on urban and regional development has expanded from transition economies (Poland’s Upper Silesia and the Ukrainian Donbas) to encompass the social phenomena observed in high, low and middle-income cities and regions across the world. Vlad regularly acts in an advisory capacity for the public, private, and civil society sectors and organisations. His research has generated over £16 million in external funding resulting in 140+ research outputs.

Dr Joanna Szostek, Senior Lecturer, Political & International Studies, University of Glasgow

Joanna Szostek is a Senior Lecturer in Politics and International Studies at the University of Glasgow, and also an associate fellow of the Russia and Eurasia Programme at Chatham House, The Royal Institute of International Affairs. She holds a doctorate in Politics from the University of Oxford. Her research focuses on the media’s role in relations between states, including the projection and reception of strategic narratives, the challenge of autocracies exerting influence on democratic states via the media, and the development of media and civil society in weak or unconsolidated democracies. She has conducted most of her research in Ukraine and Russia. Her work is published in leading peer-reviewed journals, including Perspectives on Politics, The International Journal of Press/Politics, New Media and Society, Post-Soviet Affairs and European Security.
